AT&T Voicemail: Getting Started Guide

Basic Voicemail service is available as soon as you activate your device.

For security reasons, your voicemail box must be set up from your AT&T wireless device and from within the AT&T coverage area.
  • Airtime charges apply to all calls from your wireless device to voicemail, even when the calls are to set up your voicemail.

Setting up Your Voicemail

You will be prompted to complete the voicemail setup process the first time you call voicemail from your wireless device. For security purposes, you will only be permitted to make the initial voicemail setup call from your wireless device.

Securing Your Voicemail

AT&T is committed to providing secure access to your voicemail. We strongly urge all new and existing customers to use a password for your wireless voicemail boxes for enhanced security.
When you initially set up your voicemail box, you are required to create a voicemail password to access your voicemail box. After initial setup, your voicemail will default to password on*, requiring you to use your password each time you access your voicemail box. Although AT&T does not recommend disabling the password feature, our customers have the option to turn the password feature off.

To set up your voicemail box

  1. Press and hold 1 to call into the voicemail system from your wireless device.
  2. Follow the prompts to create and enter a 4- to 15-digit voicemail password.
  3. Record your name and personal greeting, then press the # key.
  4. After completing the setup process, press * to return to the Main menu.
Your password can be any random 4- to 15-digit number. Avoid using the last four digits of your mobile number or your complete mobile number. Create a password that is unique and not shared with others. Change your password periodically, and after resetting your voicemail box.
